Bacitracin (injection)
Bacitracin is a topical antibiotic that is used to prevent infection after minor cuts and scratches. It is available over-the-counter; patients can apply it to any minor skin injury in order to prevent bacterial infections from developing. This medication is not effective against fungal or viral infections.
Warnings/Side Effects
This medication should only be used on an occasional basis; prolonged use can interfere with the body’s ability to fight bacterial infections. It should not be used on large areas of skin or on severe injuries.
This medication can cause kidney disease or failure if used for long periods of time. People on this medication should have their doctors monitor them regularly for kidney problems and should see a doctor immediately if they have lower back pain.
