Aliskiren
Aliskiren is used to treat high blood pressure in adults. Unlike other high blood pressure medications, this drug works by inhibiting resin, an enzyme found in the kidneys. Resin causes the arteries to narrow, which increases blood pressure.
Warnings/Side Effects
Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not use Aliskiren. Resin inhibitors have been shown to be dangerous to developing fetuses; in some cases, fetuses may die inside the womb if their mothers take this type of drug.
Aliskiren can also cause serious medical problems such as:
- Kidney stones
- Low blood pressure
- Dangerously high potassium levels
- Seizures
If you feel dizzy or lightheaded or you experience muscle weakness and an abnormally slow heartbeat, get emergency medical treatment. These symptoms are signs of low blood pressure or high potassium.
