Conjugated estrogen B is a type of synthetic estrogen that is often used to help treat symptoms of menopause. In addition to treating hot flashes and low estrogen associated with menopause, it also helps treat pain during sexual intercourse and other sexual dysfunction that some women experience during menopause.
Warnings/Side Effects
Estrogen can cause vaginal bleeding as well as serious illnesses such as cancer, heart attack and stroke. Women who take this drug without getting a hysterectomy are at risk of getting cancer of the lining of the uterus; all women who take this drug are at risk for breast cancer, blood clots, heart attack and stroke.
Women should not take this medication as a precautionary measure against strokes and heart attacks rather than because they need hormone replacement therapy during menopause; doing so makes it more likely that the woman will develop cancer or a heart problem.
Patients who take this medication are at increased risk of senile dementia if they take it after the age of 65.
