Busulfan is an intravenous drug that is used to control some types of cancer of the blood. It interferes with the development of bone marrow cells so that cancerous cells in the bone marrow stop growing and eventually die.
Warnings/Side Effects
Since Busulfan kills healthy bone marrow cells as well as cancerous cells, it can cause a variety of illnesses. Many people who are on this drug experience flu-like symptoms such as fatigue, fever, chills and nausea. Busulfan can also restrict bone marrow development to the point that the body doesn’t function properly. Doctors should monitor patients’ bone marrow levels carefully and discontinue use of this drug if bone marrow levels dip too low.
