Sotalol is a medication that is given to patients who are suffering from irregular heartbeats. The intravenous version of this medication is injected directly into the veins at the hospital. This medication interacts with the heart muscle in order to help it beat more steadily. Patients often get the intravenous medication at the hospital before being switched to an oral version of the medication to take at home.
Side Effects/Warnings
Some people have worse arrhythmias after taking this medication than they had before they took it. During the first three days you are on the medication, you will stay in the hospital so that doctors can monitor your vital signs and make sure the medication isn’t causing a life-threatening irregular heartbeat.
