Prochlorperazine is a conventional antipsychotic medication. This medication controls hallucinations, delusions and disorganized thinking in schizophrenic patients by inhibiting the brain’s ability to engage in abnormal activity.
Side Effects/Warnings
This medication should not be prescribed to patients who suffer from age-related psychotic dementia. Elderly people who take this medication for age-related dementia are more likely to die of a heart attack or of pneumonia than those who don’t take the medication.
This medication causes physical dependence. Do not suddenly stop taking it. If you want to stop taking the medication, you have to taper off it gradually in order to minimize the possibility of serious side effects.
