Pertuzumab is a chemotherapeutic medication that is prescribed to treat breast cancer that has metastasized. This medication is given along with two other medications to stop cancer cells from growing and continuing to spread throughout the body.
Side Effects/Warnings
Pregnant women should not take this medication. Pertuzumab can cause miscarriages, premature birth, fetal death and serious birth defects. Patients should wait six months after their last dose of pertuzumab before trying to conceive in order to protect the fetus from potential harm.
This medication can cause a severe allergic reaction. It should only be given in the hospital so that patients can remain under medical observation for a few hours to ensure their safety. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include difficulty breathing, development of hives or rashes and swelling of the tongue, mouth or face.
