Methoxy polyethylene Glycol-epoetin beta is used to treat certain types of anemia. Anemia is a condition in which the body doesn’t produce enough red blood cells; this sometimes happens as a result of kidney failure because the kidneys don’t produce proteins that stimulate blood cell production. This medication is comprised of a man-made version of the necessary proteins so that the body continues to produce red blood cells.
Side Effects/Warnings
This medication should not be administered to correct anemia caused by cancer chemotherapy. Taking this medication along with chemotherapy drugs increases the risk of a fatal heart attack or stroke. In addition, patients who take this medication are more likely to die of their cancer despite continued chemotherapeutic interventions.
