Mesoridazine is prescribed to schizophrenic patients to help control delusions, hallucinations and disorganized thinking. This medication is taken orally two to three times a day. The liquid concentrate form of this medication must be diluted with water or grape juice.
Side Effects/Warnings
This medication is currently banned in the United States because it causes dangerously irregular heartbeats. Patients should not take this medication unless all other treatments for schizophrenia have failed to work. They should call 911 immediately if they experience a fast or pounding heartbeat while on this medication.
If using the liquid concentrate of this medication, avoid contact with the skin, as the undiluted concentrate can irritate skin.
This medication can be physically addictive; patients should gradually stop taking it rather than stopping use of the medication all at once.
