Meloxicam reduces pain, tenderness, swelling and stiffness related to osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis by reducing inflammation of the joints and muscles. This medication works by stopping the body from producing a natural inflammation-causing substance.
Side Effects/Warnings
Patients who have had a coronary bypass within the last two years should avoid this medication. The medication increases the risk of heart attack and stroke in these patients; there is also considerable risk to any patient who has suffered from heart disease or who has immediate family members who have suffered from heart disease.
Patients may also develop stomach problems as a result of taking this medication. If you have severe stomach pains while on Meloxicam, you should see your doctor right away, especially if the pain is accompanied by bloody stools.
