Patients who have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, sometimes inhale indacaterol maleate in order to be able to breathe more easily. This medication relaxes and opens airways so that patients can more easily inhale.
Side Effects/Warnings
This medication should be used only to treat COPD, not asthma. Although asthma causes similar breathing problems to COPD, this medication is not effective in its treatment. Patients with asthma who take this medication are more likely to have a serious asthma attack requiring hospitalization. Asthmatic patients who take this medication may also have a fatal asthma attack.
This medication is not meant to treat emergency situations. Do not take it if you have a sudden problem due to COPD; take the medication your doctor prescribes for attacks instead.
