Gadobutrol is a contrasting agent that is injected into patients shortly before receiving an MRI of the spine or brain. This medication helps doctors identify problems in the spine or brain by creating extra contrast on the image produced via MRI. It is usually given to patients who are having tests to identify possible tumors or lesions in these areas.
Side Effects/Warnings
Patients who have kidney disease should not take this medication.Having kidney problems increases the chance that the medication will not be eliminated from the body in a timely manner, causing a serious illness called nephrogenic systemic fibrosis.
Inform your doctor of any serious medical problems you have before agreeing to an MRI. If you have heart disease, seizure disorders, or other serious health problems, taking contrasting medication can make the problem worse.
