Fondaparinux sodium is injected into the veins in order to help break up life-threatening blood clots. This medication is usually used along with other blood thinning medications that the patient takes on a daily basis.
Side Effects/Warnings
Do not have spinal punctures or spinal anesthesia while on this medication. This medication can cause spinal hematomas if you have these procedures while on it. Spinal hematomas, or pooling of blood in the spinal cord, can cause long-term or permanent paralysis. Alert your doctor to the use of this medication if he or she recommends spinal procedures. You should also report any weakness, numbness, or movement problems in your legs to your doctor immediately.
