Fenoprofen is a non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug, or NSAID. This type of drug is prescribed to people with osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis to help reduce inflammation in the joints and reduce pain, swelling, tenderness and stiffness. This drug inhibits the body’s production of a substance that contributes to inflammation.
Side Effects/Warnings
NSAIDs increase the risk of heart attack or stroke. Patients who have ever had heart disease or have a family history of heart disease should not take this drug. Heart attack and stroke risk is especially high for patients who have had bypass surgery.
Patients who take this drug may also develop serious stomach problems such as ulcers and gastrointestinal perforation. See your doctor immediately if you experience severe stomach pain or blood in your stool.
