Everolimus is a chemotherapy drug that is prescribed in response to renal cell carcinoma, a serious cancer that begins in the kidneys. It is also used to treat brain tumors in patients who have inoperable tumors and tumors in many areas of their bodies. It can also be prescribed to transplant patients to help their bodies accept the transplanted organ. It interferes with immune system function and deprives cancer cells of oxygen.
Side Effects/Warnings
This medication leaves patients susceptible to serious infections because it interferes with the immune system. Patients may develop fevers, chills and flu-like symptoms as well as congestion, sore throats and cold-like symptoms.
There is an increased chance of lymphoma and skin cancer while on this medication.
