Ethynodiol Diacetate is a medication that is prescribed to women who can get pregnant but don’t want to. This medication must be taken orally at the same time every day in order to stop the woman from ovulating or allowing fertilized eggs to implant themselves in the uterus.
Side Effects/Warnings
Women who take this medication are protected only against pregnancy, not sexually transmitted diseases. If a woman is concerned about HIV or other STDs, she needs to use other forms of protection.
This medication increases the risk that a woman will suffer a heart attack or stroke, especially if she is over the age of 35 or smokes regularly. The more a woman smokes, the more likely she is to have a heart attack or stroke while on the medication.
