Ethinynodiol Diacetate is an oral contraceptive. Women can take this pill daily in order to prevent unwanted pregnancies. The medication raises estrogen levels to trick the body into thinking it is pregnant so that the woman stops ovulating. This medication also makes it harder for sperm to get to eggs and for fertilized eggs to attach to the uterus.
Warnings/Side Effects
This medication can cause blood clots, heart attacks and strokes. It is important for women to avoid smoking while on this medication in order to reduce the chances of these serious problems. Women who smoke should quit prior to taking the medication for the first time.
Oral contraceptives do not protect against HIV or other STDs. Women and their partners should use other forms of protection such as condoms to reduce the chances of getting one of these diseases.
